Ins and Outs of Comp. Insurance

Comprehensive Insurance ~ What it is, What it covers, Why you need it

Comprehensive Insurance, curious what it is? Comprehensive insurance helps pay for damages that happen to your car from non-collision events. Examples include storms, vandalism, and even hitting a deer. An easy way to look at it is like having coverage for bad luck. Random events or damage from vandalism are covered under comprehensive insurance.

  • Comprehensive insurance pays for damage to your car caused by:

    • Weather events - hail, floods, tornados, etc.
    • Falling objects - rocks, tree limbs, etc
    • Fires or explosions
    • Hitting an animal
    • Car theft, vandalism, and broken windows
  • Comprehensive insurance does not cover:

    • Damage or injuries you cause to others while driving
    • Personal injuries as a result of an accident
    • Collision damage with another vehicle or object
    • Personal belongings inside the car
    • Damage from road potholes
    • Normal wear and tear

If the incident is covered under comprehensive insurance, the insured will first pay the deductible and then the insurance company will pay the remaining balance up to the car’s current market value. The newer the car is, the more insurance companies recommend having comprehensive insurance.

With farmers in the midst of harvest, deer and other animals are much more likely to be moving more and on the roads. Be extra cautious while driving both at night and in the early mornings!!
